Exhibition Statement:
“Optical Opulence” celebrates the joy and wonder in creating work with opulent colors using lines, texture and composition to create an enjoyable optical experience. This exhibition emerges out of 30 years of creating artwork by Lisa Calzavara and Suzanne Frazier. The artists share their deep appreciation with the art creation process.
As a Contemplative Artist, Suzanne Frazier’s oil paintings arise out of her meditative approach reflecting her exploration into a space deep inside her spirit. “Optical Opulence” inspired Suzanne to create new work around opulent colors. Since this exhibition is her last one at D’art Gallery, Suzanne will include a few paintings from her “Spirit Light” exhibition during COVID that not many people were able to see. She shares her contemplation.

The sun always rises each morning. It's one thing that survivors of sexual abuse can count on. And this is a metaphor. As we trust the sun to rise each day, may we learn to trust the people who offer to help everyone of us through recovery.

Difficult Women's Rage, 24" x 18" oil painting
Women who stand up for themselves are called “difficult women” in the eyes of individuals who are uncomfortable being around strong women. Through out my career, I have always been called “difficult” and I wear the label as a “Badge of Courage”.
The Blue Bench Organization
The Blue Bench Organization is metro Denver’s only comprehensive sexual assault prevention and survivor support center. Since our founding in 1983, we have worked tirelessly to eliminate sexual assault and diminish the impact it has on individuals, their loved ones and our community. Through issue advocacy, scientifically-supported prevention programs and a robust offering of low to no-cost client services including a 24-hour hotline, individual and group therapy and case management, The Blue Bench has helped hundreds of thousands of Denver-area people of all gender identities find the courage to move from victim to survivor.
Throughout the Denver area there are blue benches that are a symbol: It's a safe place. A place for community conversation. A place that invites everyone to come as they are.
When you see a blue bench in a neighborhood, it serves as a marker that in the community, survivors are believed and supported.

My painting, Boketto 12, has been included in the exhibition.
The concept, gazing vacantly into the distance without thinking, implied by the Japanese word, "Boketto", is the inspiration for the oil painting.
This painting was featured, a few months ago, in the exhibition by Biafarin Online Exhibition. I was one of 176 international artists exhibiting one artwork in this online exhibition.

A print of my painting "Sky Raga Reverie" was made into a "flag" that is hanging at the entrance to the Museum of Boulder....across from the Boulderado Hotel. This is my first "public art" exhibition. This part of the exhibition runs through the end of March.;
In April, the exhibition of flags will move to Children's Hospital in Aurora, CO to grace the hospital gallery walls and be suspended in the halls to bring JOY to the patients and families going through extremely hard circumstances. I'm so delighted to be part of this!

Exhibition Statement:
Joy is frequently understood as the fulfillment of desires which are considered essential to one’s own flourishing. Joy involves an existential and personally salient experience that is significant enough to produce a powerful emotional response. Joy serves critical evolutionary functions such as its role in forming bonds between infants and parents, and in intimate romantic relationships. The experience of joy is a fundamental response to human possibility.
As soon as I find my flag, I'll post an image and location.
